Wow. More guilt. I've only rerecorded 3 of the 5 episodes that need rerecording. It's just really hard as life will intrude. I WILL get that done, though. Obviously people are happy to put up with a little bit of crappiness to hear Kate's skills with the pen. I just don't want to feel like I've detracted from the story in any way and so that I can feel comfortable pointing people towards the site without feeling that little niggling of guilt I get because of the initial bad microphone.

It's definitely one of my New Year's resolutions.

Cate's will be, no doubt to FINALLY, decide on a final draft of her new book.

Thanks Maggie. I know what you mean. I went through the roller coaster of emotions, at times loving and respecting and hating and being sick about the characters. It just goes to show what a great author Cate is, when you think about the fact that these are all paper people that don't exist, but we can relate or totally be disgusted or secretly love them in all their flawed glory.

Well, it's been a wild ride fer me as well. I've enjoyed so much of the process. Catey, you finally got one of your books up and people are enjoying it, which is what I wanted for you since you're too darn lazy to do other things with it.

I hope some agent out there "reads" it and sees what a waste of talent is going on and snaps you up. In the end, we didn't receive any donations and I feel a little guilty that your book's not at least up on the charts for "best reviews" cuz of my bad qualilty mic (though I intend to fix that by rerecording the first few episodes again when time permits) but it's up and I'm proud of us.

Wow. We hit the 4000th download and we're not even up on the main page. Could it be word of mouth? Hmmm. Who knows. The final episode is tremendously long. It's looking like an hour. I haven't finished editing and it stands at an hour 20 minutes. I'm not sure it will be up by Thursday...maybe Friday. In a perfect world it would have been 2 episodes but we miscalculated how long the last episode would be so....

You got me checking for updates everyday, I can't wait to hear the next episode. English is not my first language (as you have probably noticed by now [I'm from Brazil]), but I find it easy to listen, even though the quality of the sound is not perfect, but as you said in an older post, it doesn't make a difference for the fans because the story is awesome. I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised when I started listening to it. Good luck with everything, I'm sure it will all be fine.

Well, I think the new mic system is okay. We're picking up new viewership. I had planned to go back and redo the first 8 episodes, but last night proved to me that my failing health is not up to the stress of recording for long periods of time. I got through half the next episode which seems to be huge comparatively so we'll see if we just release a whopper or cut it up and tack it on like we did with episode 9.

Well the episode is finished. It was difficult with so many peole in this chapter especially considering my health issues. I decided to stop talking about my health issues here...only the book.

Hey kids. This week's episode is kicking my ass. There are so many character voices to remember that it's making my head spin. Mur L. guru of podcasting has said that the voices don't make a bit of difference. If so, I so thouroughly regret having picked to do different voices for different characters. This book might have been finished by now if I'd gone the other way. I blame my sister. She said YOU MUST do voices, "it gives the book life", she said. Ah well, maybe she's right, who knows since noone that listens actually speaks to us. Anyway...I'm just starting to lose my voice so...I hope I'll be able to complete the voiceovers before larangitis sets in. Anna

Well, got an email from Evo Terra because of the noticeable sound difference because of the new microphone. He suggested rerecording the first 8 episodes agian with the new mic and putting the book on hold til then and then relaunching but I'm so done with recording and I'm gonna start my new job soon so I just don't see it since it took 4 months just to get those ones out. I suggested going back to the old mic just so we have a level book but he thought that it was never a good idea to go back to poorer quality so we're going with the original plan of finishing the book up with the new mic and rerecording the first 8 episodes once those are up. I think our fans don't care about the quality so much as the character and the story so for them I'm sure it will just be a bonus. And then the whole book will be up for anyone who wants to listen to it in the future. Good enough.

I figure the next episode will make or break the audience cuz this is where the characters have now pushed the envelope into complex and flawed and I wonder if the audience will be able to like them enough or not to hang in there to see what happens to them. Whoah. I guess we've had a plateau of sorts. Hmmm. Author has gotten food poisoning and is hating life (even though she's now trekked around Comicon so I guess she's feeling better). It is kind of depressing that we really don't seem to be connecting with our audience. It makes me not want to keep this site up cuz it take too much time and for what, really. No donations either. I guess Hutchins dude had to peddle his book for 2 years for it to sell and then got a good deal out of it (I think the hubby said $500K) if so I think peddling's worth it but I think Cate's too shy to do what it takes to get a lift off, so I guess this will turn out to be just a pretty, well written, fun, free book on the net. I guess I have to be happy with that.

Wow, it's kinda disconcerting the rising and rising, but good. I'm still sick as a dog, so I've only got to add that I wish the readers would write in and give us some feedback etc. What you like...what you hate...what you'd like explained...Are you out there? So far only Dierdre has been brave enough to come forth. Thank God she was so positive. I live on Dierdre's comments. I was just reading some other guy's comments who launched his book on the site too and they were viscious. Two people wrote in for that one and one said they couldn't put up with his mock disabled voice only I think the guy was just reading his book out loud and recording it...ouch! and the other reader was like I hate this stuff. Boy oh boy do I love our one positive comment. I'm not sure my skin's thick enough to take comments like this guy's book. I'm especially nervous as the characters are about to get somewhat too real and very LA icky in a way. This is where I wish Cate and I had spent a lot more time talking about the book.

I think the new mic got us better sound quality, it also made the intros and outros sound like shite and because we have the pressure to put an episode up weekly I think our quality control skills have been overchallenged. Almost done with Episode 9. Just need reviews but husband is working on another show and got roped into voice acting for a bit part on that. It was fun but I realized that I like the book better cuz I've made up the characters as I want them to be and in this I had to play a sexy lady and I wanted her to be a val and it was harder.

Cate's being worked by the man in her very hard on the body day job and has no energy to promo this book right now. Me, I'm sick and live in New Zealand but I'm glad to see so many people just enjoying a good read. I do wish Cate's talents would be able to pay off for her and give her some money. The reason I did the book was for the possible donation, but so far, we haven't received a dime so I guess people just download the book for free and that's that.

I still think it's cool that Cate produced a book with her great talent and that through my voice, people are able to share in that experience. Go us! Go them! Yeah!

Well, our audience base keeps growing, which is awsome. I do wonder if this is normal and when it will level out. I'm glad, though. It shows that a good story and *clears throat* narration will win out even with less than perfect technology. Hope the readers like the new mic. I went to the site today and someone (not the lovely Dierdre) had given me a lower rating on the narration, bringing my total down to 4. Boo hoo. But overall the readers are climbing and liking the book. Hubby and I threw down for a "real" microphone and will be recording the next episode somewhat professionally. Also we're considering doing business cards/press kits for Cate to hand out as she markets in the US and we'll give it a go in New Zealand so it can be a transcontinental marketing campaign.

On a personal note, I got a new job and a nice pay raise to go with it. Things are looking peachy.

I LOVE this story! I absolutely consume podiobooks and have listened to most of the popular authors. I honestly can’t remember a story that I’ve enjoyed more. True this genre is right up my aisle, but I think anyone could appreciate the quirky dialog and relationships in this story. The characters intrigue me and I can’t wait to find out more about them!

Am getting worried now and insecure that she hates my reading and is trying to be polite with her silence. I hope this isn't the case and I'll hear from her soon. You're welcome! Wow, there are 311 people who have now downloaded the book and iHanna seems to imply that women podio listeners have been waiting for this kind of book to show up on podiobooks. I know I have. I wonder if she'll be bold enough to comment once the book is finished. I hope so.

I also wonder where the author is...haven't heard from her since the book went live, but Cate has just newly moved house so bad timing may be taking over her scheduling of this book launch right now. I'm sure she'll post just as soon as she gets her IT sorted. Meanwhile...Episode 6 is in the can but due to the fact that we get too close to the book during retakes, we're letting it air, setting it aside and going over it this kiwi Saturday and will post it US Saturday. Or at least those are the plans since I have a scary MRI followed by an imprudent knees up party at a friend's who's just finished teacher's college...Very excited to be almost halfway there.

I mean it's probably a tiny number for the publishing world but it means, Cate, that your book is out there and that so far 254 people have been interested enough to listen to it in just 4 days. I hope I do the book justice with my reading. I also wish we could have afforded a better microphone than the one we have but waddayagonnado?

Hi kids! Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties and time delays we are behind schedule. We are just finishing episode 5 and are up to Chapter 8. There are 14 episodes in total and podiobooks will post the book once 5 episodes are up, so here we go again. We hope to be done by early July. It takes a while to download and fill out all the information sheet that they require. In any case by this weekend the first 5 should be submitted so however long it takes them then to make the episodes go live and we should be up and running. Cross your fingers.
